Guide /
Each train line has its unique way of numbering its train car and its trainset formation.
Use this guide to understand the train car numbering system, as well as the formation of a trainset to help you with trainspotting.
Example for Trainset 601/602
DT: Driving Trailer (unpowered); M1/M2: Motor car
A complete six-car trainset consists of an identical twin set of one driving trailer (DT) and two motor cars (M1 & M2) permanently coupled together.
A full-length train of six cars have two different identification numbers, and are typically coupled with an odd and even set with the odd being the smaller number.
Example for Trainset 1803/1804
DT: Driving Trailer (unpowered); M1/M2: Motor car
The seventh generation Alstom Movia R151 trains have an additional prefix "1" for the train number to standardise with other MRT lines. These trains can be identified with or without the line number.
For example, trainset 1801/1802 is the same as trainset 801/802. The SGTrains Spotters Bot allows the input of either with or without the prefix.
The train car number stickers can be found in the interior of the train at both ends of each train car.
They can also be found on the exterior next to the gangway of each train car, as well as at the ends of each train.
NSEWL trains from the first to the sixth generation uses the legacy numbering system.
