Technologies

Technologies used by train operators to improve train service reliabilities.

ATI: Automatic Track Inspection
A system of cameras, lasers & sensors installed underneath trains to detect defects along the track when train is running.
Automated CCD Detection System
Used by SMRT, an artificial intelligence system with a high sensitivity imaging system and a laser-scanner profiles the Current Collector Devices (CCDs) of passing trains.
LVDT: Linear Variable Differential Transformer
The LVDT is a surveillance instrument depot used by SMRT that monitors track conditions and any anomalies on the third rail.
RRV: Road-Rail Vehicle
Specialised engineering vehicles that can be driven on the road or on rail tracks. Used by SMRT to transport material and replace timber sleepers with concrete sleepers.
WILD: Wheel Impact Load Detection
The WILD system used by SMRT relies on fibre optics sensors installed on the rail tracks to automatically detect and identify the locations of wheel defect during train service.

Camp: Stay in a particular station to spot trains
DNB: Do Not Board
EOLU: End-of-Life Upgrade
MIA: Missing in Action
MLR: Mid-Life Refurbishment
openBVE: A popular train simulator
Refurb: Refurbished
Unrefurb: Unrefurbished (Trains that have yet to undergo refurbishment)
TRN: Train Run Number (Officially termed as Service Number)
X-Coupled/Mis-Coupled: Cross-Coupled (Trains not coupled with its correct pair)
